Privacy policy

Stigall Bladeworks is a one-person knife shop run by Joshua Stigall in Colorado, USA. “We”, “us”, and “the shop” in this policy mean Stigall Bladeworks. Questions about this policy or your information go to stigall.bladeworks@gmail.com.

Only what you give us, plus basic visit counts:

• When you send a message through “Ask the shop” or the contact page: your name, email address, message, and a subject if you add one.
• When you request a quote: your name, email address, and phone number if you give one; what the knife is for and the details you choose, such as steel, handle, and size; a budget range, a date you need it by, links to reference images, and any notes, if you add them.
• If you create an account: your name and email address, your password — stored only as a one-way hash we can't read — and anything you add, such as a shipping address.
• If you pay for an order or an invoice: your name, email address, billing and shipping details, and a record of what you paid. Card details are entered on Stripe's payment page and never reach us.
• When you visit: the basic, non-identifying visit counts described under “Visitor statistics” below.

• To reply to your messages, prepare quotes, build and ship knives, send invoices and receipts, and keep the records a business has to keep.
• To email you about your enquiry, quote, build, order, or invoice. We don't send marketing email.
• To understand, in aggregate, which pages people visit and how they find the site.

We don't sell or rent your information to anyone.

This site counts visits itself rather than using an advertising or tracking service. For each page viewed it records the page address, the website that sent you (the domain only), the country your connection comes from, and a visitor code. It also notes a few actions, such as starting a quote request.

The visitor code is made from your IP address and browser details combined with the date, then scrambled so it can't be reversed. It changes every day, so it can't be used to recognise you from one day to the next. Your IP address itself isn't stored, and no cookies are set for this.

If your browser sends a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal, nothing is recorded. Pages inside your account, invoice pages, and the shop's admin area are never recorded.

We also use Google Analytics, which sets cookies and collects information about how you use the site, such as the pages you visit, your device and browser, and your approximate location. Google handles that information under its own privacy policy, and you can opt out with Google's browser add-on.

• A sign-in cookie, only if you log in to an account, so you stay signed in.
• If online checkout is available, your cart is kept in your own browser's storage until you check out or clear it.
• Google Analytics cookies, described above.

The site uses no advertising cookies.

Only the service providers that run parts of this site, and only as much as each needs to do its job:

• Vercel, which hosts the website.
• Neon, which hosts the database where messages, quote requests, accounts, and orders are stored.
• Resend, which delivers the emails the site sends.
• Stripe, which processes card payments.
• Google, through Google Analytics.

We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect the shop against fraud.

As long as we need it to answer you, complete your order, and keep the records a business is required to keep. Visitor statistics don't identify you and are kept to see how the site is used over time.

Email stigall.bladeworks@gmail.comto ask what information we hold about you, to correct it, or to have it deleted. We'll delete it unless we're required to keep it — for example, records of a sale.

This site sells knives and isn't meant for anyone under 18. We don't knowingly collect information from children.

The site is served over an encrypted connection, passwords are stored only as one-way hashes, and access to your information is limited to the shop. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable care with what you share.

If this policy changes, the date at the top of this page changes with it.
